What is Collagen?
Collagen is a fibrous protein (most common in the body). Along with soft Keratin it is responsible for skin strength and elasticity. Its degradation leads to wrinkles that accompany ageing skin. It’s too large to be absorbed directly through the skin.
What is elastin?
This is a protein which keeps the skin flexible, but tight and provides bounce back. It depletes with age causing wrinkled or overstretched skin. It is also too large to be absorbed through the skin.
Is a ‘glue’ which binds collagen and elastin fibres. The primary use is in the intracellular matrix and cell membranes. It has high viscosity and low compressibility. It bathes cells and facilitates the movement of nutrients and wastes and offers protection to underlying bone, cartilage and tissues. You could think of it as a space filler; a gel like water holding molecule and cushioning agent. It cushions joints and nerves, hydrates skin and hair and fills the eyes. It’s the very molecule that makes people look young. Collagen and elastin are found within the matrix. It can hold up to 1000x its weight in water, therefore fine lines and wrinkles disappear as the face becomes smooth and plump. It also acts as a cushion and filler between collagen and elastin, the two proteins which determine the firmness and elasticity of the skin.
Hyaluronidase enzyme activity increases with age and breaks down Hyaluronic Acid.
What are free radicals?
These are chemicals which are crated in our bodies as a result of natural life processes. They can also be caused by environmental factors. They can damage our cells, proteins and DNA causing many chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease. They also interfere with collagen production and cause premature ageing. These are chemicals; often vitamins that can counteract the damaging effects of free radicals and play a role in the prevention of many chronic diseases and help prevent premature skin ageing.
What are penta peptides?
These are chains of 5 amino acids.
Argireline (Acetyl hexapeptide 3) which is a shortened version of Botox. Botox works by destroying a protein involved in the release of a neurotransmitter that keeps muscles tense, causing wrinkle formation. Argeraline blocks the action of this protein but does not destroy it.
Matrixyl 3000 (palmitoyl pentapeptide 4) which stimulates collagen production
The penta peptides are combined with a fatty acid so that it can penetrate the cell.
How does our plumping cream work?
It brings volume and firmness.
It activates adipocytes and interactions between fibroblasts and collagen fibres for a more firming effect, forming a meshwork between them.
It contains a plumping lipoamino acid -Palmitoyl Isoleucine.
It encourages the production of more adipocytes (adipogenesis) from pre adipocytes,
It optimises the storage of lipids in the adipocytes.
Pumpkin contains antioxidant Vitamin A and Vitamin C to help soften and soothe the skin and boost collagen production to prevent the signs of aging.
Zinc in pumpkin seeds is brilliant for acne sufferers. Zinc will help control the hormone level and oil production, as well as assist with healing of the skin.
Pumpkin seeds are high in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which are necessary to maintain good barrier function of the skin. They also regulate sebum, great for an oily skin.
The molecular structure of pumpkin is small and therefore can penetrate deeper into the skin when used topically. This is amazing for treating a dull complexion, ageing skin and pigmentation.
